Some further notes and links from Adam:

I threw a lot of information at you guys last night so here are a few links to get you guys started on the path to Linux.

How to choose a Linux distribution (distro) that's right for you. Each distro contains a different set of programs to get you up and running right away. You can always add or remove apps later.

The sheer number of Linux distros is overwhelming because anybody can make their own distro. Check out this site for a pretty comprehensive list http://www.distrowatch.com

I suggest Ubuntu because of its huge popularity, excellent online community support forums and ease of use. When you install it be sure to select update and install proprietary apps like Flash Player and .mp3 support so everything works right out of the box. Once you are up and running, there are literally thousands of free programs available in the Ubuntu Software Center. No compiling programs or command line tricks necessary, just one click to install.

Are you a bit more advanced and want to get a LAMP server up and running in 20 minutes?
(Linux, Apache, MySQL, PHP) http://www.ubuntu.com/server

Download the Ubuntu Desktop iso, burn it to a disk or flash drive and boot up and click TRY UBUNTU. This will run LIVE from your CD or USB stick. If you like what you see you can always install it to you hard drive later. It has an easy to use partitioning tool built right in. If you are booting from a flash drive you can save your settings so the next time you boot all of your previous changes will be there.

Don't forget to turn off the UEFI BIOS in Windows so you can boot from the CD or USB stick.
On older PCs just press the F-key that gets you to the boot menu (like F12 on an old Dell)
On an Intel Mac press the letter C while booting up to get the boot menu.

Got any questions? Ask Ubuntu http://askubuntu.com/ and http://ubuntuforums.org/

Or ask me aadamtech@gmail.com

Maybe we can start our own LUG (Linux User Group)?
